Getting Started on IRC

Follow these steps to join SorceryNet, an IRC network for roleplay communities, game channels, and friendly real-time chat.

1. What is IRC?

IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is an open chat protocol where people connect to servers and join channels to talk in real time. It is fast, lightweight, and community-driven.

2. Choose your IRC client

Pick the option that fits you:

  • Web (no install): SorceryNet Webchat.
  • Desktop: HexChat (Windows/Linux), Textual (macOS), or The Lounge.
  • Mobile: IRCCloud, Palaver (iOS), or AndroIRC (Android).

3. Connect to SorceryNet

  1. Server: irc.sorcery.net
  2. Ports: 6667 (plain) or 6697 (TLS/SSL)
  3. Password: none required

In webchat, click Connect. In a desktop client, add a new network profile with these settings.

4. Register your nickname

To secure your identity on the network:

/msg NickServ REGISTER <password> your@email.com
/msg NickServ IDENTIFY <password>
