Getting Started on IRC

Follow these steps to join SorceryNet, the premier IRC network for role-players & gaming communities.

1. What Is IRC?

IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is a longstanding, decentralized chat protocol where people connect to servers and join channels to talk in real time. No ads, no tracking—just community.

2. Choose Your IRC Client

Pick the one that fits you:

  • Web (No install): SorceryNet Webchat—fast, no setup.
  • Desktop: HexChat (Windows/Linux), Textual (macOS), or The Lounge.
  • Mobile: IRCCloud, Palaver (iOS), or AndroIRC (Android).

3. Connect to SorceryNet

  1. Server: irc.sorcery.net
  2. Ports: 6667 (unencrypted) or 6697 (TLS/SSL)
  3. Password: (none required)

In webchat, just click “Connect Now.” In a desktop client, add a new server profile with the above settings. Clients with an already-populated list of networks should already have SorceryNet configured automatically.

4. Register Your Nickname

To secure your nickname:

/msg NickServ REGISTER <password> your@email.com
/msg NickServ IDENTIFY <password>

Now no one else can use your name.

5. Join Channels

To view live channels, see our Channels page, or type /list in your IRC client.
