Frequently Asked Questions

Pick a nickname, then tell NickServ to register it.

1. Choose a nick: type /nick YourNickName
2. Register it:
   /msg NickServ REGISTER password email@example.com
3. Check your email if prompted and follow the confirmation link/code.
4. Next time you connect, identify:
   /msg NickServ IDENTIFY password

Tip: /msg NickServ HELP shows more options (password changes, recovery, etc.).

1. Create or join your channel:
   /join #YourChannel
2. Make sure you have ops (@) in the channel.
3. Register it with ChanServ:
   /msg ChanServ REGISTER #YourChannel A short description
4. (Optional) Add trusted staff:
   /msg ChanServ AOP #YourChannel ADD Nick
   /msg ChanServ SOP #YourChannel ADD Nick
5. (Optional) Set useful defaults:
   /msg ChanServ SET #YourChannel KEEPTOPIC ON
   /msg ChanServ SET #YourChannel URL https://sorcery.net/channels/

First, check whether the channel is registered:

• If it’s not registered but people are idling in it: join #square and tell us you’d like to adopt it. We can help get an active person opped so they can register it properly with ChanServ.
• If it is registered but the owners are gone: come to #square. We’ll review the situation and advise on next steps.

2. Enter a nickname and the channel you want (e.g. #square).
3. Click Connect. You’re in! You can register your nick or join other channels from there.
