How to register a nickname
Secure your SorceryNet identity with NickServ.
Why registration matters
Nickname registration helps people recognize you, protects your identity, and gives IRC services a stable account to attach permissions to. If you help run a channel, registration is essential.
- Registered nicks are harder for others to impersonate.
- Channel access lists usually depend on registered accounts.
- A stable nickname helps roleplay communities remember who you are.
Basic NickServ flow
Service command syntax can vary slightly by configuration, so use NickServ HELP if a command does not behave as expected. The normal pattern is registration, email confirmation if required, then identify on future connections.
- /msg NickServ REGISTER password email@example.com
- /msg NickServ IDENTIFY password
- /msg NickServ HELP REGISTER
- /msg NickServ HELP IDENTIFY
Keep your account recoverable
Treat your IRC account like any other community account. Use a unique password and keep the email current if services use email for confirmation or recovery.
- Do not reuse a password from Discord, email, games, or other sites.
- Do not paste your NickServ password into a public channel.
- If you think your account is compromised, ask staff for help in #square.
